Kundalini Yoga ‘the Yoga of Awareness’

Yoga has its origins in human experience, said to have evolved over 40,000 years ago.  The work of the early yogis was based upon tangible observations of the effects of different activities on one’s energy. Over time this led to over 22 different schools of yoga.

Kundalini yoga is a Raj yoga that establishes an aligned relationship with the Body, Mind, and the Soul.It utilizes a combination of technologies: (1) Physical Posture and Movement, (2) Conscious Breathing, (3) Meditation, and (4) Mantras and Sound Vibration. These techniques form the owner’s manual for human consciousness, and what it really means to be a human being.

I remember my first yoga class in 1995 like yesterday, it was the first time I was able to completely relax my body and let go of my over-thinking mind. I had initially attended yoga classes to strengthen my core, become more flexible, reduce my persistent migraines and handle exam stress better; However, that all changed in 1999 with my first kundalini yoga class, which began my daily love affair practicing yoga and meditations as a way to journey deeper into myself. Although I practiced many types of yoga and meditations over the past few decades, kundalini yoga has been my key spiritual foundation to explore the depths of my mind, body and my connection to my soul. And has sustained my physical health, with a strong immune system, a strong nervous system, vital glands, and good circulation.

On the yoga mat, our practice enables us to move into a series of sequential postures, relaxing the body, following the breath, and developing awareness of the sensations in their body and the thoughts in their mind. Mantras, breathing (pranayama) and meditation exercises calm and focus the mind and develop greater self-awareness. It goes right to the heart and expands your consciousness so you can respond with awareness and creativity in all aspects of your daily life.

We first develop the space within our practice, and can expand this awareness throughout the day. We create the space where we are present to ourselves and to our life, where we can sense and just allow things to be.  From this space, we can sense of our own identity and respond with kindness, grace and love and be true to your true self and nature.

We have become a generation that expects to rides the highs of life all the time! Happiness is just one click away. Poof, advanced technology has fulfilled our pull of instant gratification, we want what we want, anywhere, anytime! But the reality is, variations is part of life, the ups and downs are normal.  But instead of developing the mind  and a mature attitude to ride on the waves of life, we want to control everything, and thus do not do well coping with the natural ups and lows of life.

This is where kundalini yoga fits in: You build a relationship with your mind, so that you learn to ride your energy, to experience it and penetrate any given situation to attain a balance. With a Neural Mind, you learn to encounter and enjoy the constant change that is life.
